Te Arai is a beautiful beach about halfway between Auckland and Whangarei.
There are a couple of houses and a small camp ground along the road there, but the nearest shops are miles away.
A land developer is planning to put in a large scale development:
“1,400-2,000 houses on 620 hectares from Mangawhai Sand Dune along to Eyres Point (Te Arai Point) in the forestry area, 200-400m from the high tide mark”
That sucks. Especially for the acutely endangered native birds that nest there.
The Te Arai Beach Preservation Society believe the Beach and its surrounds should be conserved for our enjoyment and for the enjoyment of future generations..
